Winter Activities in Grand Junction

The Grand Mesa is located just thirty-five miles east of Grand Junction and is home to Powderhorn ski resort as well as numerous other winter activities. Powderhorn is one of Colorado’s reeminent family ski areas, surrounded
by the 360,000-acre Grand Mesa National Forest and overlooks unbelievable views of the Bookcliffs and the Grand Valley. With a base elevation of 8,200 feet, powder hounds will be in paradise. The resort offers runs for skiers and snowboarders of any ability, from challenging mogul fields to easier groomed trails. The lift lines are never too lengthy, and the ticket prices make a day on the slopes very affordable. With a vertical drop of up to 1,650 feet, Powderhorn can definitely get
the adrenaline going.

For snowshoeing and cross-country skiing, The Mesa, which rises above the valley at 10,800 feet, is home to numerous groomed and backcountry trails and receives more than 20 feet of snow a year, perfect for a day trip, or stay the weekend at one of the many mountain lodges. Looking to meet other skiers, improve your form, take up skate skiing, or just for some good fun and company? Grand Mesa Nordic Council is comprised of over 300 members of all ages and abilities, organizing group ski
days, races and Full Moon ski trips... log on to gmnc.info and learn more.
Try snowmobiling on Grand Mesa or ice fishing. There are so many great places for snowmobiling here that the Mesa had to be divided into two separate snowmobile areas. The Powderhorn Area offers groomed trails from Mesa Lakes Resort to Electric Mountain Lodge, and the Sunlight area continues on from Electric Mountain Lodge north to the Marion Gulch trailhead. One of the most popular snowmobile trails is the lengthy Powderhorn-Sunlight trail, which runs 120 miles from the doorstep of Grand Mesa’s Alexander Lake Lodge to Glenwood Springs’ Sunlight Mountain ski resort. For visitors new to snowmobiling, many Grand Mesa resorts offer snowmobile rentals and guided tours. The Grand Mesa is also home to over 200 lakes, and many great for ice fishing, so the sky is the limit, sunshine and snow create this winter wonderland and invite you to come out and play.
