Grand Valley Catholic Outreach
The Vision
Provide emergency services to individuals and families in need.
Support those who are homeless in their quest for decent living by offering services at the day center and both emergency and transitional housing.
Feed those who otherwise would go hungry on our valley.
Invite participation from all denominations in this quest to support human life.
Outreach History
Grand Valley Catholic Outreach is a non-profit agency dedicated to serving those who are in need, regardless of race, sex or religion. Begun more than thirty years ago by two Franciscan Sisters, outreach today is catholic in the true sense of the word, enjoying assistance and support from interfaith and civic communities located in the valley as well as from numerous individuals.
Outreach Services
Almost Home - Provides on a weekly basis a listing of affordable rental housing available in the Grand Junction area. These lists are available at approximately forty-five locations throughout the community. Individual housing counseling is also available.
Free Clothing Bank - Supplies clothing, shoes, bedding, household items & books for men, women, and children.
A Book-In-Hand
Places in the hands of children, ages one to six, a new, hardcover book that becomes their very own. Books are very important for the growth and development of pre-school children.
Day Center - Offers the amenities of home such as showers, laundry, storage, telephone, messages, mail, and transportation regularly to approximately 120 persons who are homeless. More than 2,000 individuals have been able to secure jobs as a result of these services. Mental and physical health care professionals provide services to Day Center guests.
Financial Aid
Provides monetary assistance for rent, utilities, medications, and transportation in emergency situations. Guests are given referrals to community resources. Over a twelve-month period, 1,815 persons received some form of financial assistance.
Emergency Food Bank
Supplies food to families and individuals who are faced with empty pantries. Travelers passing through our community who are in need of food are also served.
Soup Kitchen
Prepares and serves a hot, noonday meal Monday through Saturday from 12:00-1:00 for persons in our valley who are hungry. An average of 210 persons are served daily.
Emergency Housing - Houses homeless families while they search for affordable housing and save for deposit and rent.
Transitional Supportive Housing - Offers to individuals and families an option to end homelessness through cooperative living, counseling, and work training. Each year 23 individuals are provided transitional housing.
