Walls go up on Habitat's Auction House fundraiser
The second Habitat for Humanity "Auction House" fundraiser is underway!
The day was April 1st but there was no fooling around. The wall raising was serious business in the beautiful, new Cotton Woods Subdivision in Fruita.
Bruce Milyard and Dennis Phillips of Constructors West, Inc., have partnered with Habitat for Humanity of Mesa County on its second "Auction House", a large-scale fundraiser. Contractors and building material suppliers in the community have been enlisted to help build this beautiful home at little or no cost. By building one house with as much donated material and labor as possible, then auctioning that home, the proceeds can be used to build Habitat homes for low-income, Mesa County families in need.
"Our goal is to raise $100,000 with this fundraiser", explains Jennifer Brownell, board president for Habitat for Humanity of Mesa County. When the home is auctioned, all proceeds will be donated to Habitat. It will go towards the infrastructure in the second phase of Camelot Gardens where there will be eight more single-family homes for Habitat families. The first auction house proceeds went to build the infrastructure on the first phase of 11 homes now under construction.
The fundraiser really is a great opportunity for people in the building and real estate industry to get involved in helping lower income families to obtain housing, states Brownell, a marketing and sales agent with Meridian Land Title. In Mesa County, we all work in this industry. It's nice to give back to the industry we work in and to help lower income families that can't qualify for traditional financing to get into a home of their own. That's why this project ends up being so special for the industry itself.
Constructors West is donating the supervision, as well as the equity in the lot in the Cotton Woods Subdivision. Many of our wonderful subcontractors have contributed to this, as well, to give back into the community that has made us so very fortunate, says Milyard.
The housing industry in Grand Junction has been very good to us, and its an opportunity for us to give back to the less fortunate and help Habitat, which is a wonderful organization for people who qualify and need a home.
We're very thankful that so many subcontractors and suppliers have been willing to participate along with us, says Milyard. It's a nice way to say thank you to the community. Building began on the three-bedroom, two-bath, two-car garage home in March and is expected to be complete in early summer.
