Quality Jobs First Campaign
The shortage of high paying jobs has been a major economic issue in Mesa County for some time. Based on the economic data compiled by the US Department of Labor, Mesa County's average salaries have barely increased since 1969. When adjusted for inflation, the average salary has increased from $25,131 to just $25,208, a gain of only $77. It is clear that our community must plan, invest, and work together for a brighter future. In response, volunteer leaders and staff at the Grand Junction Economic Partnership have developed a five-year plan that emphasizes creation of over 700 new primary jobs with an average salary of $32,975.
The Quality Jobs First campaign will help GJEP raise funds to continue the process of bringing high quality jobs to Mesa County. GJEP is a privately funded, non-profit economic development organization founded by local business leaders in 1984. Its purpose is to diversify the economic base of Mesa County and create sustainable economic growth through the recruitment of business and quality jobs. Since its inception, the organization has assisted in the creation of 2,428 primary jobs and $385,855,802 in payroll for Mesa County. (...go back)
