7th Annual Walk 4 Life - October 2, 2004

Presented by the Junior Service League of Grand Junction in partnership with City Market Stores and Cost Cutters Family Hair Care. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and The Junior Service League's 7th Annual "Walk 4 Life" bring people together to promote breast cancer awareness and detection. Mark your calendar for Saturday, October 2, 2004, at the Western Colorado Botanical Gardens, South 7th and Struthers, check in starts at 8 a.m. Mistress of Ceremonies, Lynette Jennings, a breast cancer survivor will kick off the 5K (3-mile) walk at 8:30 a.m. to Eagle Rim Park and back.

When federal funding was eliminated for low income and uninsured women 40-49 to receive mammograms, JSL knowing that there needed to be a program to fill the gap made a decision to create Walk 4 Life. Junior Service League of Grand Junction, wanted to make sure that this group of women were given the chance for early detection of Breast Cancer.

All proceeds from the Walk 4 Life stay in the community and is given to St. Mary's and Community Hospital for mammogram services. During the past 6 years more than 850 women have received mammograms from this fund. Eleven of those women were detected with breast cancer and went on to receive medical attention.

Individual pre-registration fee for Walk 4 Life is $15.00, day of the event; $20.00. Team registration fees are 1 - 10 walkers; $15 each, 10+ walkers, $10 each. The Junior Service League of Grand Junction is a non-profit organization dedicated to the betterment of the community through volunteerism and fundraising.
