Family Health West Nonprofit - Eldercare Organization Benefits from Charitable Contributions
By Sue Saelens, RN, Director of Contributions
Family Health West, a locally owned nonprofit organization, built by farmers and ranchers of the Fruita community, has served Western Colorado for over 55 years and is truly a pioneer in the implementation of innovative eldercare. Family Health West provides a Unique Continuum of Care for the elderly; as well as physical, speech, and occupational therapy services and hospital, emergency, lab and x-ray services for most all ages in our community. Our Continuum includes five facilities that offer various aspects of eldercare: Adult Extended Care - a nursing home facility that includes Alzheimer's care; Hospital complete with lab, x-ray and therapies; Assisted Living; Secure Assisted Living for first stages of Alzheimer's and dementia; and a Therapy Outreach Clinic. Family Health West has over 300 employees serving 245 very special residents. We continue to add new programs to our unique model of care. For example, Our Enhanced Dining Experience Program provides the pleasure of eating in a homelike family atmosphere. An intergenerational approach has been added using local high school students as Hospitality Aides. This program has evoked smiles and has a positive effect on our residents improving their overall functionality, and of course, providing a "Higher Quality of Life." Our innovative and successful programs are designed to meet the needs of an expanding, deserving, elderly population. Without community support, continued funding presents a challenge. We rely on charitable contributions to help sustain our outstanding programs. We are so grateful to donors such as RE/MAX 4000. Their continued generosity helps to make a wonderful difference in the lives of our residents.
